Ash’s obsessions

3v3-9-27-16

Cle de Peau Beaute Concealer.  Yes it’s expensive.  Yes it’s worth it.  I was introduced to this product at Saks in SF over a year ago.  It was a few weeks before my wedding and I wanted THE BEST concealer.  I was having a hard time spending that on a concealer, but I have far from perfect skin and was willing to pay for a backup plan.  I am still using that same tube and I use it nearly every day.  I love it.  For me, it is worth every penny.

H&M Imitation Suede Biker Jacket.  Super cute faux suede jacket at a great price.  This fitted jacket is perfect for fall.  I just ordered mine and can’t wait for it to arrive!  PS.  Sign up for the H&M newsletter and get 20% off + free shipping!

Hunter ‘Tour’ Packable Rain Boot.  A few years ago I was in Prague for the holidays and it rained and rained and rained.  I ruined two pairs of shoes and caught a nasty cold.  Shortly after I discovered these amazing travel rain boots and had to have them.  They are MUCH lighter weight than traditional Hunter boots, and and they roll up and fit into a cute little bag.  I highly recommend, particularly for you travelers.

Zara Metallic Pleated Skirt. I love all things metallic- that’s no secret. This skirt is a great length, amazing color {also comes in silver!}, and this style looks amazing on everyone. Wear it with a white t-shirt and dress it down, or stick it with something black and silky to dress it up!

Pura Vida Bracelets. I love Pura Vida. I own many of their bracelets and you will rarely ever find me without some sort of bracelet stack going on! These are great quality- last forever- and with the price point, you can grab a bunch of them!

Anthropologie Ardenia Dress.  Drop waist dresses and I have a very special bond- I tend to buy them all. I love them. They aren’t just a plain, shift dress with no shape- but yet, aren’t a skin tight body con dress. They are the perfect in-between- and this one is just that. Did I mention that all sale items are an extra 30% off right now?!

fall favorites

Fall is officially here!  As we transition to cooler weather we wanted to share some of our top picks for the season.

Ash’s picks

fall-picks

1. Stuart Weitzman 50/50 Boot; 2. Burberry Lip Velvet in Oxblood 437; 3. Caslon Heathered Cashmere Gauze Scarf; 4. Eileen Fisher Cropped Skinny Organic Twill Pants; 5. London Fog Heritage Trench Coat;  6.  Manolo Blahnik BB Pump; 7. J. Crew Italian Cashmere V-Neck Sweater; 8. Ivanka Trump ‘Chic’ Flat

Aj’s picks

1. Bomber jackets are the ‘thing’ this season and this Chloe & Katie print bomber jacket is sure to make a statement without draining your paycheck! I love the fun print; but, if you love the trend, but aren’t into something quite so loud, this black blankNYC bomber jacket is the one for you.

2. It would not be fall without busting out the booties! You have heard Ash and I rave about our Chloe Susanna’s, and our Jeffrey Campbell ‘Taggart’ booties- but a new one on my list are these Free People ‘Swept Away’ bootie! I love the cutout detail. Anything that makes something stand out as unique and different wins in my book.

3. I’m sure you’ve seen them- the 90’s are hitting us in the face with chokers! This AEO triple layer choker does the trend justice by being dainty, different, and the right price point!

4. As fall rolls in, I love my grey’s. Grey t-shirts, grey sweaters, grey shoes- and grey jeans! These are my favorite, go-to grey jeans: Jcrew Toothpick grey jeans . Great fit, thick enough, and just the right amount of stretch.

5. Metallics are here to stay and I LOVE it! I own these Loeffler Randall metallic d’orsay flats and there are very few shoes that I get as many compliments on as these. They are fantastic. This shoe will go with any outfit, any occasion.

6. The day it starts to turn chilly I bring out every chunky, warm, wrap me up sweater I own. Each year I add a few more to my collection. I just purchased this Topshop Patchwork cardigan  a few weeks ago, and now have my eyes on this Anthropologie wool cardigan  and UO open loop-stitch cardigan !

7. I’ve said it before, hats are a must in my book and fall allows me to bring out my wool fedoras. Here are two that are similar, classic, and amazing- at two different price points: the Asos wool fedora and the Rag & Bone wool fedora.

8. Transition all of your ‘a little too short for fall’ dresses and skirts into the ‘perfect fall dress with booties’ with a great pair of tights. I own them in solid black and grey, patterns, sweater material, lined, you name it. I find Target tights are the best variety at the best price.

happy fall!

family picture tips & tricks

let’s talk something that we all dread and hate, but– insist on doing and end up loving.

family pictures.

It’s that time of year! We start thinking about family pictures so we can slap one on a holiday card come December. Now, I can not be the only one who has this love/hate relationship with family pictures.

Typical pictures include: very few of my husband. I love him, but the fact he even shows up for them is an accomplishment! As for my kids, they will be crying, running off, making silly faces or some combination of those three. Then there is me. I will most likely be making some sort of mid-talking face or just something ridiculous in general because I am trying to get everyone to cooperate and be happy!

But- in saying all of that, there are always some photos that make the event worth it- which is why I want to share with you my family picture tips!

December 2015

Me: Anthropologie sweater (similar ones here) | Target tee (similar ones here)  |  Jcrew jeans  |  Sorel boots.
Hadley: Hunter boots | Old navy puffer jacket (similar one here)
Beckam: Target hat | Old navy puffer jacket (similar one here)

First: Pick your theme or a vision you have for your pictures. Boho, field, industrial, cityscape, lifestyle. Or, do something fun- baking cookies, dress up, playing your favorite family sport. Hit up Pinterest! Create a vision board.

Second: Figure out outfits. PLEASE stop doing “matchy-matchy” outfits. Instead, LOOSELY coordinate. This goes back to your theme- run with it! Pick a few common shades and make sure that you distribute those evenly among the family. I always start with my outfit,{selfish I know}, but my kids look cute in anything and let’s face it, men aren’t going out buying new clothes for pictures. From there I usually pick one of my kids and put them in something that has a color or a shade of the color from my outfit. Then repeat with my husband and the other little one.

Third: If your kids are little like mine- quit trying to pose photos. It WILL NOT WORK and will just cause you to be angry, upset, and feisty through your photoshoot, which will end up making your face in pictures look worse than anyone else! Trust me on this. Set aside 5 minutes to try and get “that” photo- then move on. Once they are older you can have everyone smile at the camera, but until then, embrace the natural pictures. It will take so much anxiety off of you.

October 2015

Me: Free People dress.
Hadley: Dillards dress (similar one here) |  Minnetonka boots.
Beckam: Toms Boots. H&M pants | Carters Top (similar ones here)
Husband: Jcrew top (similar ones here)

October 2014

Me: Alice & Oliva Dress (similar ones here, here, here) | Badgley Mischka shoes
Hadley: Gap dress.
Beckam: Burberry onesie.

November 2013

Me: Jcrew sweater (similar one here) | Jcrew Jeans Hunter boots.
Hadley: Gap boots (similar ones here) |  Old Navy jeansOld navy fur vest. Gap ear muff headband.
Husband: Jcrew flannel (similar ones here)

November 2012

Me: Anthropologie sweater | Neiman Marcus Last call silk top | Steve madden wedge boots (similar one here)
Hadley: Gap sweater dress |  Anthropologie clip on a headband

Lastly: Breathe. Relax. Enjoy. At the end of the day you are just wanting some pictures of your family to remember the years as they grow. Whatever you get is a reflection of your family that year.

A few of my go-to stores for family photo outfits:

jcrew.   old navy.   gap.   anthropologie.  neiman marcus last call.   nordstrom.   free people.   h&m.
