Granola

I introduce to you my recipe for yummy granola- which is adapted from the granola recipe of the lovely Kristin Andrus  {check her out for amazing recipes!} You can really add anything you want to this! Make it your own. Remove the things your family doesn’t love and add the things they do. We love coconut around here so sometimes I add extra! IMG_3776Granola

  • 5.5 cups Old Fashioned Oats
  • 1.5 cups sliced almonds
  • 1/2 cup pecans- chopped
  • 1/2 cup walnuts- chopped
  • 1 cup flaxseed
  • 1 cup unsweetened coconut flakes or shredded coconut
  • cinnamon to taste
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup or brown sugar (if you like it sweeter- add more!) we use maple syrup in our house
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

Mix together the oats, nuts, flaxseed, coconut, and cinnamon in a large bowl. Mix the oil, honey, brown sugar and vanilla together in a pot on the stove- heat until slightly bubbly and completely combined. Then, pour over the dry mixture and mix together. Once everything is coated, divided the mixture between two large baking/jelly roll pans. Bake at 300 for 15- 20 minutes. You do not want this to burn! It will not look golden- it will continue to cook/harden when you bring it out of the oven. Once cooled, keep in an airtight container. Enjoy 🙂 Use as a cereal, on top of yogurt, mixed with peanut butter & an apple!

Ash’s obsessions

3v3-10-30-16

November is here and I am totally starting to feel the holidays, as you can probably tell from my current obsessions.

Thanksgiving photo cards.  One of my dear friends and mentors sends out Thanksgiving cards each year instead of Christmas cards.  I love this idea!  Thanksgiving cards are received before the onslaught of holiday cards, and spread the love of giving thanks for friends, family, and other life blessings.

Manolo Blahnik BB Suede Heels.  Beautiful burgundy heels are just perfect for the upcoming holidays, and the Manolo BB heels are among my very favorites.  Classic lines, perfect fit, and rich colors.

Etched Deer Figurines.  The perfect size for table decorations or atop the mantle.  The adorable little deers subtly set a holiday mood.

ASOS Pleated Hem Dress. This dress has everything I love. A drop waist look, cute details {check out the arm detailing!}, a solid-good color, and under $100! I’ll be adding this one to my dress collection.

Chloe Lauren Leather Flats. My sis has raved about these before on instagram, and now the gold ones are on sale! Originally $475 now $289! Invest in good flats. I know it is hard to spend the money, but you wear them daily, they are so much more comfortable and last longer because they are better made. Plus, how cute would they look with this, this, or this to add a festive holiday sparkle to the outfit this season!

Endless Rose Studded Cable Knit Sweater.  Who can turn down a black cable knit sweater with gold stud detailing!? I sure can’t!

Now Open!

sneak peek!!

We’ve been busy putting the final touches on the Juniper Lemons online boutique that’s OPENING THIS WEEK!  And we are so excited that we simply could not wait to share some of the items.  So here is just a little sneak peek at the Juniper Lemons boutique!

We are two sisters (Ash + Aj) with varying styles and interests, but we share a passion for clothes and fashion.  We handpick every item for the store and we only sell pieces that we love, endorse, and wear ourselves.  And in fact, that is Aj doing most of the product pic modeling.

So what can you expect to see in the boutique?  Easy to wear dresses like the ‘Audrey’, ‘Carol’, and ‘Paige’ shown above are some of our faves.

And through the cooler months we’re sure to be living in comfy cozy cardigans like the ‘Remi’ above and the ‘Hadley’ shown below.

And we love super versatile items like the black and white ‘Kate’ dress that can also be worn as a tunic or light jacket.

The online store is opening this week, so stay tuned!  These items and more will all be available, and new items will be added weekly.

Happy shopping!

Avoca Lakeside Throw.  This warm and cozy throw is just what my home is missing.  In fact I ordered it over the weekend in two colors and I cannot wait for it to arrive.  Bring on the cooler temps, I’m ready!

Nathalie Lete Compagnon Cheese Board.  Soooo cute!  And since a meat and cheese plate regularly passes for dinner chez moi, this piece found its way to my house too.

Sleeping on Snow Fairbanks Half-Zip Pullover.  Another of my weekend purchases… but how could I resist?!  Beautiful colors, soft and cozy; it was love at first sight.

New Balance 620 Sneakers.  Sneakers are all the ‘rage’ right now. You can wear them with anything. These are great neutral colored ones- but with a splash of gold! You know I’m a fan if there’s gold involved.

Kate Spade NY Semiprecious Stone Stud Earrings. I don’t change out my earrings often. You can typically find me with something on that’s super simple, minimal, and can go with anything.  These fit that description.

ASOS Ruffled Sweater. I love the colors and girly ruffle detail of this sweater! This one is currently in my cart and at under $50, will be making it’s way to my house shortly!

recent reads on business

As previously mentioned, I listen to audiobooks on my commute.  And my commute is loooong so I go through several.  A recent focus of mine has been on business, and specifically starting one.  If you work for a business, own a business, want to start a business, or are thinking about forming a business… here are some of the books I found useful.

power-your-happy

Power Your Happy by Lisa Sugar.  Lisa is the founder of POPSUGAR, her self-created dream job.  And perhaps you’ve also heard of ShopStyle and POPSUGAR Must Have which also fall under the POPSUGAR Inc. umbrella.  In her book, Lisa describes how she went about figuring out what her dream job was, and then took the risks to create it.  Her personal and business story is a light read that is sure to get you inspired and motivated!  This is the only non-audiobook on the list, but it’s perfect for lazy Sunday mornings, a local cafe, or airport layovers.

the-hard-thing

The Hard Thing About Hard Things:  Building a Business When There Are No Easy Answers by Ben Horowitz.  Ben Horowitz is a technology entrepreneur who together with Marc Andreessen founded Loudcloud.  When Loudcloud sold its core managed services business to EDS, Ben worked to rebrand the remaining company into an enterprise software company called Opsware, which was ultimately bought by Hewlett-Packard.  In his book, Ben gives an honest, no-nonsense, recounting of the difficulties of running a startup and he shares the lessons he learned along the way.  The book has great tips for anyone starting a business, running a business, managing people, or aspiring to do any of the above.

lean-startup

The Lean Startup by Eric Ries.  Eric Ries is a serial entrepreneur turned venture advisor and knows first hand that most startups fail.  From his experience though, Eric developed a methodology to help startups succeed.  Eric began documenting his methodology on his blog, and now in this book.  Eric details his lean startup method with real life examples from his days as CTO of IMVU where he learned the value of creating a Minimal Viable Product (MVP) to figure out what customers actually want and will use before spending loads of time and resources creating a seemingly perfect product.

book how to win friends
How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnagie.  Written in 1936 this book has been around a while.  And as I learned from reading The Snowball, Warren Buffett read it numerous times and even took Mr. Carnegie’s course.  With its 12 ways to win people to your way of thinking, and 9 ways to change people without arousing resentment, this book is just as useful in the workplace as it is at home 😉

start-your-own-corp

Start Your Own Corporation:  Why the Rich Own their Own Companies and Everyone Else Works for Them by Garrett Sutton.  If you are starting a business, own a small business, or have wealth that you want to protect and/or pass on, then this book is worth a read.  The author is an established business attorney and he does a good job of walking you through the various types of business entity structures, why you may want to have one, and how to get one.  For each entity type he highlights pros and cons, and gives real life examples of business entities limiting liability, gaining tax advantages, and safeguarding assets.

Happy reading!  And if you have any inspirational business books to recommend, let us know in the comments!
