Mother’s Day & Deals!

Happy Mother’s Day! I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend and a special day with the people they love! Whether it be friends, family, or by yourself – if that’s what makes you happy 😉 If you need another pick me up- I’ve linked below, some of our favorite shops who are having amazing sales this weekend!

We don’t usually get very personal here on the blog, but it just wouldn’t be Mother’s Day without us giving a little shout out to our Mom:

To the lady that taught us it’s ok to dream big, to leave the messy house for a fun adventure instead, don’t be afraid, try something new, that pizza is healthy- it has vegetables, coke can be a breakfast drink…and snack, mid snack, lunch, pre dinner, and dinner drink- but only if you drink it from a wine glass, you can run your first marathon in your 60’s, and to always be down for a good time- We say, thank you and we love you. Happy Mother’s Day.

Ash’s obsessions

Soludos espadrilles.  “Hi…”… oh, “Hey”… LOVE THESE!  Espadrilles are super hot this season, and these are too cute.  Also available in black here.  And I’m also a BIG fan of these lemons ones here.

Floral dress.  Just can’t stop with the florals for spring!  An easy shift silhouette with flirty neckline.  And you can wear it with or without the waist tie.

Embroidered cutoffs.  The embroidered detail on these shorts is too cute.  I recently bought these for spring/summer.  I ordered them a size bigger than I normally wear because I like my cutoffs a bit slouchy.  Great for wearing over a swimsuit, or pair with a v-neck tee (like this one or this one) and go!

Aj’s obsessions

Vix striped one piece. Love this classic one piece. I’m always looking for good one pieces.

Surf gypsy cover-up. How beautiful is this cover-up?! Love the white linen but with the fun embroidery color detailing.

Rupa leggings. You know by now I love this company. See my review and more about them here– but this week/weekend, they are celebrating mom’s and giving everyone 25% off all leggings with code: loveleggings

Dress | Heels (not under $50)| Bag (not under $50)

Bloggers can be fun to follow- but a lot of the time, I get frustrated when everything they post is waaaay out of my budget. A few, key, splurge pieces, I am on board with- but everything, no. So, I thought it would be fun to give you a roundup of some pieces UNDER $50! Like this dress- it’s NOT maternity, but still fits my growing 21 week bump, and I snagged it for $25! It’s originally $44, but they had a sale for 50% off (which they run frequently).

Finds under $50:

My skin is far from perfect… and with the hormonal ups and downs of pregnancy over the last year, it was especially fussy!  Here are the products that I found to work-

cleansers

First Aid Beauty face cleanser.  A fragrance free, gentle cleanser to remove makeup and dirt without over-drying.  This is my go-to nightly cleanser.

Boscia charcoal cleansing stick.  I use this deep-pore cleanser a couple times a week.  You can use it all over your face, or just on trouble spots.

Ole Henriksen power peel.  My co-worker introduced me to this miracle product.  It is a 3-step home spa treatment that includes an almond polish facial scrub, lemon strip facial peel, and chamomile comfort facial mask.  I’d recommend using it at least once a month, or once every other week.

cleansing tool

foreo

I purchased a Foreo Luna over a year ago and I love it.  It is relatively small and a single charge lasts about 6 months, making it perfect for travel.  And there are no replacement brushes to buy, so just the one time cost.  Use it with your favorite face wash for a gentle but effective scrubbing.

Foreo Luna mini 2

moisturizers

First Aid Beauty 5 in 1 face cream.  This is a multipurpose anti-aging moisturizer with SPF 30.  It repels harmful UV rays, soothes, evens skin tone, combats free-radical damage, and prevents wrinkles.  What else do you need really?!

Kiehl’s midnight recovery concentrate.  Simply massage a few drops of this magical oil onto your clean face before bedtime.  Wear it alone or under moisturizer.  In addition to its moisturizing benefits, it has a beautifully relaxing scent that is ah-mazing.

Korres wild rose moisturizing cream.  A 24-hour moisturizing and brightening cream that purports to repair the look of fine lines and skin discolorations.  I use it every other night or so on top of the Kiehl’s recovery concentrate, and sometimes more often if I’m feeling particularly dry.

eye treatments

Eye treatments are a new addition to my routine, and I couldn’t be happier with these two products.

Kiehl’s eye treatment.  It gently moisturizes and does not migrate into the eyes.  My skin and eyes are particularly sensitive, and I’ve had no issues with this product.

Origins No Puffery.  Just roll the product under your eyes in the morning to de-pouf puffs and brighten dark circles.  The cool roll-on will definitely help you feel and look more awake and alert.

face wipes

FAB caffeine wipes

First Aid Beauty Wake-Up wipes.  These face wipes are infused with matcha green tea to remove dirt and oil while hydrating and reviving.  I use one every morning to to cleanse and prep my skin for the day before applying the First Aid Beauty 5-in-1 moisturizer.

multipurpose balm

rose balm dotcom

Glossier Rose Balm.  This skin salve comes in 4 flavors, but the rose is my go-to.  I previously raved about the product here, and I still love it.  It is in fact a staple in my bag and I use it as a lip balm, on dry skin patches, and I’ve even used it to tame a bit of frizzy by rubbing a small amount between my palms and smoothing over my hair. Simply a great multi-purpose product.

Fiesta dips!

FullSizeRender 58

In honor of Cinco de Mayo, I thought I would share a tried and true salsa recipe, a copycat creamy jalapeño dip, and my mom’s 7 layer dip. When we knew we were going to be moving to Utah, I knew I had to learn the salsa recipe from my mother-in-law. She makes it every Sunday for Sunday dinners and I knew my husband wouldn’t be able to live without it. But, in good family recipe fashion, she didn’t have any measurements. I watched her for several Sundays so that I could perfect it just as she has! The creamy jalapeño ranch is a favorite of mine from a restaurant back home in Texas called Chuy’s. I spent many late night girls nights snacking on this- so I had to figure out how to make it so I could enjoy it here! And the 7 layer dip is one my mom made all growing up and is just a good-ol staple. SO, here you go! They are all super easy, quick, and sure to be favorites.

7 layer dip

Ingredients:

**now, I don’t put measurements because it is totally to your liking/taste! Add more of one layer or less of another depending on your favorites!

  • jalapeno bean dip (you can find this normally on the chip aisle)
  • sour cream
  • mayonnaise** optional
  • taco seasoning
  • avocados
  • lemon juice
  • shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • roma tomatoes
  • green onions
  • black olives

Directions:

  • In a clear baking dish layer the jalapeño bean dip first.  In a separate bowl, smash the avocados together with a little salt, pepper, and lemon juice. Layer this on top of the bean dip. Then mix together, in a separate bowl, sour cream a tiny bit of mayo (optional) and taco seasoning to taste. Spread on top of the avocados. This will seal off the avocado layer so it doesn’t get brown. Then sprinkle the cheese to cover the top. Add chopped roma tomatoes, chopped black olives, and sliced green onions. This makes for 7 delicious layers!
    • Layer 1: Beans
    • Layer 2: Avocados
    • Layer 3: Sour Cream mixture
    • Layer 4: Cheese
    • Layer 5: Tomatoes
    • Layer 6: Black olives
    • Layer 7: Green onions

Salsa

Ingredients:

  • 1 large can of whole tomatoes
  • 2tbsp lemon juice
  • 1tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4tsp cumin
  • 1/4tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4tsp onion powder
  • 2-3 pickled jalapeños- most of the seeds removed (they come in a can, I just dump the can in a tupperware and keep it in my fridge)
  • 1 bunch of Cilantro

Directions:

Dump everything into a blender and blend away! Add salt/cilantro/jalapeño/lemon juice to taste from there! See I told you it was easy!

Creamy Jalapeno Dip

Ingredients:

  • 16oz light sour cream
  • 1 package (1oz) Ranch dip mix
  • 2 large jalapeños -seeded
  • 2 cloves of garlic -minced
  • 1/3 cup cilantro
  • 1 whole lime -juiced
  • 2-4tbsp (depending on desired thickness) milk

Directions:

  1. Add the jalapeños, cilantro and garlic to a food processor or blender. I use my vitamix. Pulse, and scrap down the sides, until you have a nice mixture. Add the rest of the ingredients, except for the milk, and blend until creamy. Add the milk- a tbsp at a time until you reach desired consistency. Enjoy!
