Jeffrey Campbell Gorham Boots.  Available in brown and khaki these boots would look super chic over jeans and paired with a sweater; or pair them with a boho dress for a completely different look.

Sanctuary Kate Faux-Fur Leopard Coat.  Such a great piece to dress up or down!  And it will be a perfect topper for all of those upcoming holiday parties.  Looks like it’s selling out fast, so also check here.

Anthropologie String of Stars Barrette.  It has stars and it sparkles, so of course I love it.  And during the holiday season you can get away with wearing sparkly accessories pretty much 24/7.  Sparkle more.

Band T-Shirts. I am pretty obsessed with vintage band t-shirts. Of course the ones I originally fell in love with were crazy expensive… but I have recently found these and I’m going to try them out!

Nars Lip Pencil Sticks. These are my go-to lipsticks. I love every color I’ve ever bought and they last forever! The colors are amazing. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Nike AeroLoft Running Vest. It’s starting to cool down which means you may need to start switching some of your running tanks for long sleeves! I love this vest. It is extremely light weight but incredibly warm.

Thanksgiving

mini pies;  cheese board; caligrapher plates

Thanksgiving is nearly here!  It is one of our favorite holidays and we thought we’d share just a few reasons why we love it.

Ash’s reasons to love

There are so many reasons to love Thanksgiving, but I’ll narrow it down to just a few and save the rest to share in years to come!  In no particular order…

1.  What’s better than getting together with friends and/or family and eating good food?!  Not much.  And even if all of the food isn’t all that great, the bottle of wine or dessert that you brought is sure to be to your liking.  HINT HINT – don’t show up empty handed!  If you need some host give ideas, check out Aj’s recent Gift Guide post for some inspiration.

2.  Pie.  Apple pie, pumpkin pie, strawberry pie, key lime pie, pecan pie – I love pie.  When I was younger we’d spend a few weeks every summer in Los Angeles and my dad would make regular stops at Polly’s Pies, bringing back several at a time.  I remember always getting to pick my own (whole pie, not piece!) from the long list of fresh baked pies.  When Thanksgiving rolled around and our family gathered, there was always a turkey, green bean caserole, and sweet potato bake; but dessert was when the eating got serious.  The pies outnumbered the guests, and an assortment of cookies filled the side table.  Having a small gathering but still want variety?  Opt for mini pies like the ones pictured above from Peasant Pies in San Francisco.

3. The Official kickoff to the holiday season.  Sure Starbucks started using their holiday cups a few weeks ago, and Target started putting out its Christmas decorations with the Halloween candy; but Thanksgiving is, IMHO, the official start of the season.  Time to put on some red lipstick and something sparkly because the holidays are here!  Cheers!  (PS.  Need something sparkly to wear?  Check out the Glitz, Glam, & Velvet post.)

Aj’s reasons to love

 1. Food. Let’s be honest, any excuse to get together with all the family and friends I love and eat great food is an amazing day. I’m already drooling thinking about a few of my favorite Thanksgiving dishes: brussels sprouts, mile long dessert spreads, homemade cranberry sauce, and fancy fall salads.

2. Seeing my kiddos play with all the cousins. Every year growing up we would drive down to our MeeMaw & PeePaw’s house and have Thanksgiving. It was one of the few days a year that all the cousins would be there and we looked forward to it! My son & daughter are one of 19 cousins on my husband’s side and I just love seeing them all get together and play. It brings back so many fun memories from my childhood.

3. Black Friday. Ok- so I have a love hate with this one. I hate that it has now encroached on Thanksgiving because now it is taking away from family time for some and that makes me sad; but, I do love black Friday. The reason I love it is probably different from most- it’s not because of all the deals {even though there are some great ones this year and I’ll be posting about some of the ones you need to snag, soon!} but instead, it’s because it’s become a tradition for a couple of my sister in laws and I to load up in one car and tackle Black Friday sales together. We make a plan and attack a store together so that we can cover more ground. We stay out late and end our victorious night with popcorn and a movie- I love it and I love my family.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

BP. Stripe Crewneck Tee.  A great neutral tee that can be worn on its own or layered.  I’m loving it with an over-sized blanket scarf!

Chloe Marcie Small Leather Crossbody.  I’m been obsessed with the Chloe Marcie bags for a while now.  I love the small crossbody (pictured above) for its compact size that is great for city hikes and travel adventures.  And I’m also in love with the medium satchel since it’s my perfect size for every-day use.  I haven’t splurged on either yet, but maybe someday…

Hadley sweater.  This is one of my very favorite sweaters this season.  It’s a great length, neutral color, has a hood; and in my humble opinion it’s simply perfect!  For more photos and info check out this recent post.

Hamilton Beach Electric Kettle. Ash and I love our teas- but waiting for water to boil just took too long for our impatient selves- and microwaving water goes against our desire to {try} and be healthy. So, she actually ordered this first and I followed along shortly after. Game changer. Takes about 2 minutes for boiling water. I’m sold!

Wayf Velvet Wrap Dress. I tried this dress on yesterday at Nordstrom- love the soft, neutral color- and who can pass up a velvet dress during the holidays!? I’ll be going back for it soon – had to give the card a break yesterday 😉

Sorel Out N’ About Leather Duck Boots.  I own some tall Sorel boots, but have been coveting these shorter ones. Here it Texas, it is rare that I can bust out my tall ones, so these seem like a cute substitution for those slushy winter days!

Highlighting our ‘Hadley’ sweater this week!  Run Style Run featured the sweater in a recent blog postbe sure to read the post stat for details on an upcoming @runstylerun bag giveaway!  And the beautiful @beckynj sported hers earlier this month at Antelope Island State Park.  I wear mine all the time, but relying on the hubs for a good pic has been frustrating 😉

The Hadley sweater is available in the Juniper Lemons online store at www.juniperlemons.com.  All prices shown include shipping and taxes, so there are never any surprises at checkout!

pumpkins pumpkins pumpkins

Like many festive folks, you may have visited a pumpkin patch or two in October.  We did!  And now that Halloween has passed we’re wondering.. what should we do with all those pumpkins?!  Read on for decorating ideas and some recipes!  But first, where’d those pumpkins come from?

Ash’s pumpkin patch visit

I checked out the Great Peter Pumpkin Patch on one of the rainiest weekends Nor Cal has seen in a while.  And, yes! – that’s the ‘jane trench‘ I’m wearing along with the ‘everyday leggings’ (coming soon!), ‘ruche long sleeve tee‘, and Hunter ‘Tour’ packable rain boots (previously mentioned here).

Aj’s pumpkin patch visit

My visit was more of kid-centered visit. We went to a darling pumpkin patch farm with animals, pumpkins, and a real corn maze – Hall’s Pumpkin Farm & Corn Maze. The littles loved being able to just pick grass and feed the animals – as well as running around like crazy trying to find our way out of the corn maze! Do you see those cute boots I was wearing!? Those are coming to the store SOON!! And that perfect green color tee I’m sporting? Yep, our ‘premium tee- evergreen‘. Kiddo’s outfits are from here and here. The husband’s? Ya, I didn’t think you asked. *eyeroll* he did not dress cute for the occasion.

Now, what we’re doing with all those pumpkins…

Decorating ideas

pumpkin-welcome

Pumpkins fit the season through Thanksgiving (at least the ones that weren’t carved up), so let them hang out!  Put them on the front porch, use some in a table centerpiece, paint them white and gold for a more contemporary/modern feel – so many options!  Here is some inspiration that we found –

White pumpkins from Livingly;  gold confetti pumpkins also from Livingly; and a beautiful pumpkin centerpiece from the Stone Gable blog.

Recipes

Nothing says fall like pumpkin flavored EVERYTHING. Here is one of our favorites:

Pumpkin Double Layer Cheesecake Bars

Crust

  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 2-5 tbsp (to taste) white sugar

Filling

  • 4 packages, 8oz each, cream cheese- room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 4 eggs- room temperature
  • 1 8oz can of canned pumpkin
  • 2 tsp pumpkin pie spice

Homemade whipped cream

  • whipping cream
  • sugar
  • vanilla

Directions:

Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. Line a 9×13″ baking pan with parchment paper- leaving a little over hanging on the sides.

In a bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, and sugar. Mix to combine- Then press the crumb mixture on the bottom of the prepared baking pan. You can use the bottom of a cup to really press down on the crust to make sure it’s pressed firmly together.

In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese and sugar. Beat with a paddle attachment until light, fluffy, and smooth. You don’t want any lumps! This is why it is key for everything to be at room temperature.

Beat in the eggs, one at a time- until blended. Spoon half of this mixture over the crust and spread evenly. To the remaining mixture add the canned pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice. Use a wire whisk to stir until smooth. Then, carefully spoon this over the other layer in the pan.

Bake the cheesecake in the oven for 50 minutes. Then- just turn the oven off and leave the door slightly ajar so that the cheesecake can slowly cool down- about 1 hour, maybe more.

Refrigerate for at least 3 hours before cutting into bars! A little tip- run your knife under warm water and dry it off between cuts so you get smooth, clean cut bars! Top with homemade whipped cream (or store bought!) and sprinkle on some pumpkin pie spice for a festive touch. Then- try not to eat them all before you share with others. You’ve been warned.

Ash’s obsessions

3v3-10-30-16

November is here and I am totally starting to feel the holidays, as you can probably tell from my current obsessions.

Thanksgiving photo cards.  One of my dear friends and mentors sends out Thanksgiving cards each year instead of Christmas cards.  I love this idea!  Thanksgiving cards are received before the onslaught of holiday cards, and spread the love of giving thanks for friends, family, and other life blessings.

Manolo Blahnik BB Suede Heels.  Beautiful burgundy heels are just perfect for the upcoming holidays, and the Manolo BB heels are among my very favorites.  Classic lines, perfect fit, and rich colors.

Etched Deer Figurines.  The perfect size for table decorations or atop the mantle.  The adorable little deers subtly set a holiday mood.

ASOS Pleated Hem Dress. This dress has everything I love. A drop waist look, cute details {check out the arm detailing!}, a solid-good color, and under $100! I’ll be adding this one to my dress collection.

Chloe Lauren Leather Flats. My sis has raved about these before on instagram, and now the gold ones are on sale! Originally $475 now $289! Invest in good flats. I know it is hard to spend the money, but you wear them daily, they are so much more comfortable and last longer because they are better made. Plus, how cute would they look with this, this, or this to add a festive holiday sparkle to the outfit this season!

Endless Rose Studded Cable Knit Sweater.  Who can turn down a black cable knit sweater with gold stud detailing!? I sure can’t!
